Narrative

SHELBY COUNTY, TN – Two people, including a Memphis Police Department officer, died following a two-vehicle collision early last Friday, August 2, in downtown Memphis.

The fatal wreck took place at the corner of Mississippi Boulevard and Danny Thomas Boulevard, in the South Forum neighborhood. MPD officers responded to the scene at about 3:00 a.m. to find that a MPD vehicle was involved.

Preliminary details indicate that the driver of a gray Nissan had sustained a gunshot wound from a prior disagreement with another man in the area of South Parkway East and Mississippi Boulevard. Shortly after, he was involved in a collision with the MPD vehicle, which was occupied by two officers.

All three patients were rushed to Regional One Hospital, where one officer, 34,  and the civilian succumbed to their injuries. At the time of WSMV’s report Friday morning, the other MPD officer was in critical condition.

An investigation is being handled by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and MPD’s Homicide Bureau.
